Quick Answer

What does a kitchen remodel in Los Angeles include?

A full kitchen remodel with Girl Flip covers the layout, cabinets, counters, backsplash, flooring, lighting, plumbing, electrical and appliance hookups, plus permits when your plan needs them. Most projects run about 3 to 5 months from signed contract to final walkthrough. It is built for homeowners who want one licensed crew from the first sketch to the reveal.

Why Girl Flip

A women-led kitchen remodeler Los Angeles homeowners can call by name

Girl Flip is a licensed, women-led, family-owned kitchen remodeling company. Erica Anenberg, our general contractor and founder, and Beth Benson, our head of sales and operations, stay on your project from the first walkthrough to the last one. You never get handed to a rotating cast of estimators.

Kitchens are what we do best. For Carnie Wilson, we gutted a 400-square-foot kitchen down to the studs, refinished and reconfigured the cabinets to fit a 72-inch built-in refrigerator, and took out a wall to open a passthrough to the dining room. We also built two kitchens that appeared on HGTV with Tarek El Moussa, in Torrance and Long Beach.

Our shop is in Canoga Park, so the crew, the materials and the project managers are close to the work. We hold CA contractor license #1091248 and carry a 5.0 rating across Google, Yelp, Sitejabber, ProvenExpert and BuildZoom.

What We Build

Kitchen remodeling services, from layout to the last cabinet pull

Every kitchen renovation in Los Angeles is scoped in writing after a walkthrough, so you know what is included before work starts. Here is what that scope usually covers.

01

Kitchen layout and design

We rework the floor plan so the kitchen cooks, stores and gathers the way your family really lives. That can mean a bigger island, a cleaner work triangle, or opening the wall to the family room.

02

Custom and semi-custom cabinets

Cabinets are built or ordered to fit your walls, your storage habits and your budget. We can also refinish and reconfigure good existing boxes, as we did in the Carnie Wilson kitchen.

03

Countertops

Quartz, granite and natural stone are templated after the cabinets are set, then installed clean. We help you weigh edge profiles, seams and upkeep before you commit.

Explore →
04

Kitchen islands

A custom kitchen island can hold prep space, seating, a sink or a range. We size it to the room so you can still open the dishwasher and walk behind a stool.

Explore →
05

Backsplash and tile

From stacked ceramic to full-height marble slab, we set tile flat and finish it cleanly around outlets, windows and hood runs.

Explore →
06

Flooring

Wide-plank hardwood, engineered wood and tile all work in a kitchen, and we run the new floor through the open living space so the seams do not show.

Explore →
07

Appliances and ventilation

Gas ranges, built-in refrigerators and larger hoods change the venting, gas line and electrical load. We confirm the specs before the cabinets are ordered.

08

Lighting and electrical

Recessed lights, under-cabinet lighting and pendants go in on planned circuits, with added outlets where you will use them.

Our Process

How we run a kitchen remodel, step by step

A clear order of work is what keeps a kitchen remodel from running your life. These are the five steps, with the time each one usually takes from our kitchen timeline guide.

1

Discovery call

A short call to hear about your goals, your timeline and your budget, and to see if we are a fit for each other.

2

Walkthrough and quote

We walk the kitchen, measure, take photos and write a detailed scope and estimate. Design and material selections usually take 2 to 4 weeks.

3

Plans and permits

Drawings, engineering and permit paperwork for anything that moves plumbing, electrical or walls. Permit review runs 2 to 8 weeks or more, depending on the city.

4

Build

Demo takes 2 to 5 days. Rough-in, drywall, cabinets, counters and finish work follow, usually over several weeks, with regular updates from the crew.

5

Reveal

A final walkthrough with a punch list, so every detail is right before we call it done.

Cost and Timeline

How much does kitchen remodeling cost in Los Angeles?

Most mid-range kitchen remodels in Los Angeles start in the $50K to $100K range, and a full project usually takes about 3 to 5 months from signed contract to final walkthrough. These are general market ranges, not a quote. The number that applies to your home comes after a walkthrough.

Larger or high-end kitchenLayout changes, custom cabinetry, premium appliance packages, bigger footprintsMoves well past $100K

What changes the price

  • Layout changes. Moving a sink, a range or a wall adds plumbing, electrical and sometimes structural work.
  • Cabinet type. Custom, semi-custom and refinished cabinets can swing a budget by tens of thousands of dollars.
  • Counter material and appliance package. A quartz counter with standard appliances costs far less than a slab island with built-ins.
  • What is behind the walls. Older Los Angeles homes often turn up outdated panels, galvanized pipe or unpermitted prior work once the walls open.
Materials and Options

Cabinets, counters and layouts: the choices that shape your kitchen

Lead times drive the schedule more than demolition does. Custom cabinets, certain stone slabs and specialty appliances can take weeks to arrive, so we help you finalize selections and order early.

In a Spanish bungalow or a mid-century ranch, a kitchen remodel often means opening a closed kitchen to the dining room and rebalancing storage. In a tract home in the Valley, the footprint is usually fixed, so the gains come from smarter cabinet runs and a better island or peninsula. A mid-century kitchen remodel can keep the clean lines of flat-panel cabinets while swapping in better counters, lighting and appliances.

Changing a selection after materials are ordered is the most common cause of delay. We lock decisions before demo and price each upgrade clearly, so you can trade one for another.

Permits

Do you need a permit for a kitchen remodel in Los Angeles?

In the City of Los Angeles, moving walls, relocating plumbing, adding circuits or changing a gas line generally needs a permit from LADBS, the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Swapping cabinets and counters in place often does not. Cities such as Burbank, Beverly Hills and Calabasas run their own building departments with their own rules.

We tell you which category your plan falls into. When a permit applies, our preconstruction package takes the project to Ready to Issue, which includes plans, structural engineering where needed, energy compliance documents and permit processing. Read the details in our guide on whether you need a permit to remodel in California.

Kitchen remodeling Los Angeles FAQs

How much does kitchen remodeling cost in Los Angeles?
A mid-range kitchen remodel in Los Angeles typically starts in the $50K to $100K range, and larger or high-end kitchens move well past that. Layout changes, cabinet type, counters, appliances and what is found behind the walls drive the number. We give you a real range after a walkthrough.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
Plan on about 3 to 5 months from signed contract to final walkthrough. Design and selections take 2 to 4 weeks, permits 2 to 8 weeks or more, and construction several weeks after that. Finalizing choices before demo is the best way to protect your schedule.
Do I need a permit for a kitchen remodel in Los Angeles?
Usually yes if you move walls, relocate plumbing, add circuits or change a gas line. In the City of Los Angeles that permit comes from LADBS. Swapping cabinets and counters in place often needs none. We tell you which applies and handle the permit when it does.
What is the process of hiring a kitchen remodeling contractor?
You start with a discovery call, then a walkthrough, a written scope and estimate, plans and permits, the build and a final reveal. At every step you deal with the same team, so decisions and changes do not get lost.
How do I choose a kitchen remodeling contractor in LA?
Check that the contractor is licensed with the CSLB, ask to see finished kitchens, and ask who will actually be on site. Girl Flip is licensed (CA #1091248), women-led, and shows real project photos. Compare written scopes, not just totals.
Can you move walls or change the kitchen layout?
Yes. Opening a kitchen to the family room or dining room is one of the most common requests. If the wall is load-bearing, we bring in structural engineering and pull a permit. We check the wall during the walkthrough so you know early.
Can I stay home during my kitchen remodel?
Most families do. You will lose the kitchen for a stretch, so we plan a temporary setup, such as a microwave and a prep area in another room. We also cover dust control and how the crew moves through the house.
Why choose a women-led kitchen remodeler?
Our clients tell us they feel heard. Erica and Beth run every project, communicate often and explain costs plainly. The work is done by a licensed crew, with the same attention to detail you see in our HGTV kitchens.
Do you remodel kitchens in Studio City, Encino and Beverly Hills?
Yes. We serve Studio City, Encino, Beverly Hills, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks and the rest of Los Angeles and the Valley. We also work in Thousand Oaks, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills. See the area links above for each page.
