Explore →Much of the city was built out in the decades after it incorporated, so many homes are tract houses from roughly the 1970s through the 1990s, alongside some newer planned communities. Those homes tend to share a few traits. Kitchens are closed off from the family room, cabinets are original or lightly updated, and bathrooms are small compared with the rest of the house.
That is why the most common projects are opening up a kitchen, rebuilding a primary bath, and reworking the flow between the kitchen, dining area and backyard. The weather invites indoor and outdoor living, so wider openings to the patio come up a lot.
Old Agoura and the lots near Ladyface Mountain are a different story. Bigger parcels, slopes and mature oaks open the door to additions, guest houses and ADUs, but they also mean site conditions get looked at early. We walk the property before we promise anything.
The City of Agoura Hills Building and Safety Division reviews plans and issues building permits for work inside the city, and plan check is by appointment. Bigger remodels, structural changes, additions and anything that moves plumbing or electrical generally need plans and review before work starts.
A few local layers matter here. Agoura Hills has an oak tree ordinance that protects native oaks, and work near the protected zone of a tree can require an oak tree permit from the planning department. A substantial part of the city also sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which can bring fire department review and fire-resistant construction requirements. Many neighborhoods have HOA architectural review too.

After the walkthrough you get a clear scope and an estimate in writing. We do not guess at numbers over the phone, because the right figure depends on the house, the permits it needs and material lead times. Once you approve, we move into plans and permits if the project requires them, then the build.
During construction you are not left wondering what happens next. We do a final walkthrough with you before we call a project done. Featured on HGTV and Hulu, we like to think the real measure is how the house feels to live in a year later.
