Kitchen & Bathroom Remodel Cost Guide for Los Angeles

What actually drives the price of a remodel here, and what realistic ranges look like by scope.

The honest answer to "how much does a remodel cost" is: it depends on scope, finish level, and what's behind your walls once we open them up. But homeowners planning a project deserve more than that non-answer, so here's how we actually walk clients through it during a discovery call.

The factors that move the number most

Scope of work. A cosmetic refresh (new countertops, cabinet fronts, fixtures) costs a fraction of a full gut remodel that touches plumbing, electrical, and layout. Moving a wall, relocating plumbing lines, or expanding a footprint all add cost before a single finish is chosen.

Finish level. Appliance and material brand, countertop material (laminate versus quartz versus natural stone), and custom versus semi-custom cabinetry can each shift a budget by tens of thousands of dollars on the same square footage.

What's behind the walls. Older Los Angeles homes, especially in neighborhoods like Burbank, Sherman Oaks, and Encino, often have outdated electrical panels, galvanized plumbing, or undocumented prior work. Once permits are pulled and walls come down, code sometimes requires bringing these systems up to current standard, which is exactly why an accurate quote comes after a walkthrough, not before one.

Permits and engineering. Structural changes, additions, and ADUs require architectural plans, structural engineering, and permit processing before construction even starts. See our permit guide for what that involves.

General ranges homeowners should expect

These are broad, general ranges reflective of the Los Angeles market as a whole, not a quote, and not specific to any one project. Every number below can move significantly based on the factors above:

  • Bathroom remodel: a mid-range full bathroom remodel (new tile, vanity, fixtures, tub or shower) commonly runs from the low tens of thousands into the $30K–$50K range for a more extensive gut-and-rebuild.
  • Kitchen remodel: a mid-range kitchen remodel typically starts in the $50K–$100K range, with high-end or larger footprints, custom cabinetry, and premium appliance packages moving well past that.
  • Full home remodel or addition: whole-home remodels and additions are the most variable category, often starting around $100K–$250K+ depending on square footage and scope.

The only way to get a number that actually applies to your home is a walkthrough. That's what our discovery call is for. We look at the actual space, talk through your priorities, and give you a real range before any commitment.

How Girl Flip approaches budgeting

Founder Erica Anenberg brings 30+ years of business experience to how projects get scoped and priced, and every client works directly with Erica and Head of Sales & Operations Beth Benson from the first call through the final walkthrough, not a rotating cast of estimators. We'd rather tell you a real range up front than a low number that changes once the walls come down.
